Linn-Jeanethe Kyed is a very charming young lady from Norway. I met her last September at the Filmfestival in Zurich. She presented the impressive documentary film "Magnus"for which she wrote the script. I think it's very interesting to find out more about the special profession scriptwriter.

1. Laura Bünd: Was it always your dream to become a scriptwriter?

Linn-Jeanethe Kyed:
For many years I thought that it was singing I was meant to do. I was a singer for many years. But I developed stage fright and it was natural for me to find another way to tell stories than through music. A course in dramaturgy convinced me to choose a writer as a profession.

2. LB: What do you really enjoy about scriptwriting?

LJK:
I love to create stories that can make people feel something and give them the opportunity to reflect on their own and other lives.

3. LB: Is it hard to become a scriptwriter and to earn money with this special job?

LJK:
It is very difficult. The profession demanded discipline and good work ethic.

4. LB: What kind of criteria are important for you to decide if you want to write a script or not?

LJK:
I'm always looking for stories with a universal theme. I belive that recognition is the key to the heart of the audience.

5. LB: You are the scriptwriter of the documentary film „Magnus“. How did you get this job?

LJK:
I got the job because I had worked with the film producer on another fiction film. He wanted to continue our cooperation. I said no because I had never done a documentary before, but was persuaded to take a chance.

6. LB: What is fascinating you about the person Magnus Carlsen?

LJK:
Magnus Carlsen fascinates me because his brain is like a computer, but still he takes its decisions based on human intuition.

7. LB: Was it difficult to write the biography of a foreign person?

LJK:
I found it difficult at first, but it went better and better as I became more familiar with Magnus Carlsen through the 500 hours of footage.

8. LB: Did the work at Magnus wake up your interest for chess?

LJK:
Yes. I have big plans to learn to play chess.

9. LB: Do you prefer to write documentary or more fiction scripts?

LJK:
I love telling stories. It does not matter if it is a documentary or a fiction. I love both.

10. LB: About what subject would you love to write a script?

LJK:
I am fascinated by the grieving process. I love telling stories where characters experience something sad that will make them stronger in the end.

11. LB: What are your next projects?

LJK:
I work with a children's film and a comedy.

12. LB: What’s your absolutely favourite movie?

LJK:
Forrest Gump

13. LB: You were already nominated for an Oscar, please tell us more about it.

LJK:
It was a magical experience. I still do not understand that I was a part of the Oscar show in 2012. It was amazing to walk the red carpet among such big stars.

14. LB: What’s your goal for 2017?

LJK:
Continue to work as hard to achieve all my goals (which I want to keep to myself).

15. LB: Where can I find some more information about you and your current work?
