Laura Bünd: Dear Carlos Marrero, The Marrero Collection is your first own silk scarves & tunics brand- How did you come to this?
Carlos Marrero; After working for over 25 years so many magazines (and still do some work for them), I decided that the next logical step would be to put my heart into wearable pieces. A magazine has a limited shelf-life, while a beautiful scarf can last a lifetime.

LB: And when did you launch the line?
CM: The Marrero Collection started in the summer of 2014.

LB: The scarves and tunics have very beautiful and bright colours. What mean colours to you?
CM: I was born in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, now I reside in Miami Florida so color to me is everything! Colors on scarves are great because when you wear a scarf around your neck, it will help bring luminosity to your skin and brighten up your look.

LB: What’s your favourite colour and why?
CM: I think Orange is a warm, optimistic, not shy LOL
Orange looks great on dark skin, light skin, if you’re tan or not tan.

LB: Before you created Marrero Collection, you worked for different top fashion Magazines like Cosmopolitan and Vogue. What did you learn from that period of your life?
CM:
I learn of DEADLINES LOL
It was and still is an incredible time of my life, I think my favorite experiences as a fashion illustrator had to be the day I went to Barnes & Noble and I opened a Vogue magazine and my illustration was there! That was a dream come true.

LB: Why are you interested in creating fashion scarves?
CM: I think scarves are so chic and were the perfect vehicle form y illustration work. The colors and images translate beautifully.

LB: Where do you get your inspiration for the prints on your scarves, tunic and handbags?
CM: I find inspiration EVERYWHERE... a book, a movie, a vacation trip, a meditation... a dream! Every season is different and that is what makes it exciting and frightening at the same time.

LB: What is trend for spring/summer 2017?
CM: Some of the things I spotted at NYC Fashion Week were: Bathrobes, a new version of the trench coat, the color Yellow, Cut-outs, Ruffles… YES ruffles are still going strong and stripes.

LB: What is your aim with your collection?
CM: I want my client to feel beutiful and special in every piece I create. That is why I have a limited edition collection. I always say that my line is a compilation of alluring statement pieces designed for the fashionista looking for unique fashion items without the couture price tag.

LB: As you know, I really love scarves. Which one would you suggest me and why?
CM: I LOVE the way you wear your scarves and I wish more people would follow your trend! Any of my Silk Squares would look fantastic with your look.
Maybe a print-one like the Art-nouveau or boho-flowers....stay tuned to what I sent you!

LB: Which accessory is a must-have for a Lady?
CM: Some women rely on jewelry, some on shoes, but a woman wearing a scarf gives a sense of power, I find it as a new way to express Hi-End style & personality.

LB: How should a gentleman dress?
CM: This is a very hard question because we have a lot of factors that can affect this, age, location, occasion, etc
Crisp, clean, and well-fitted clothing – wherever you are at in the world – encourages others to take you more seriously.
I’m all about an awesome watch, belt, a fabulous pair of shoes and a suit that fits!

LB: What is your definition of beauty?
CM: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A popular quote from the 3rd century and true to anything you happen to be beholding.
These days the Fashion industry & media dictate definition of beauty, but I think beauty comes with feeling comfortable with who you are and how you feel; a sum of intoxicating experiences that made you feel alive.

LB: Are headscarves nowadays trendy or do women prefer neck scarves?
CM: There is no right answer to this question, what matters is WHAT DO YOU LIKE? What is your VIBE? There's absolutely a place in women's style for headscarves and neck scarves. #BREAKtheRULES
